We’re Legit!

We received our invitation this week to become members of the Haiti City Team!  I cried!!!  Immediately, surprisingly, I broke into tears.  Wow, was I was caught off guard by my response.  I had no doubt we’d be invited.  I/we know this is where God wants us…so why the tears???  Why are my emotions so raw, so sensitive?  It’s because we do love where we are, the people we live with, the people we serve with, and the people we serve.  We are incredibly content.  As much as we want to go, we want to stay.  My heart breaks for what we will leave behind and aches for what is to come.  Several days later I am still very sensitive…emotional.  While driving yesterday I was processing things when the song “Kings and Queen’s” by Audio Adrenaline came on.  I’ve heard this song numerous times, but this time it brought me to tears (as I said I’m crying a lot these days!).  Here’s how it goes…

Little hands, shoeless feet, lonely eyes looking back at me
Will we leave behind the innocent to grieve
On their own, on the run when their lives have only begun
These could be our daughters and our sons
And just like a drum I can hear their hearts beating
I know my God won’t let them be defeated
Every child has a dream to belong and be loved

Boys become kings, girls will be queens
Wrapped in Your majesty
When we love, when we love the least of these
Then they will be brave and free
Shout your name in victory
When we love when we love the least of these
When we love the least of these

Break our hearts once again
Help us to remember when
We were only children hoping for a friend
Won’t you look around these are the lives that the world has forgotten
Waiting for doors of our hearts and our homes to open

If not us who will be like Jesus
To the least of these
If not us tell me who will be like Jesus
Like Jesus to the least of these

For now, God is calling us to minister to those less fortunate than we are here in the U.S.  What a privilege!

We have some goals ahead of us.  From the beginning we set a goal of being on the field in 12 months which would be Feb-Mar of next year.  We have a good amount of training ahead of us before we can enter the field.  In order to begin the next round of training starting in July, that will allow us to be on the field early next year, we need to have 50% of our monthly support needed, committed by June.  Because God has gone before us, we know this is attainable.  As of the end of April we are at 32%.  We have been blessed to be surrounded by people who are rich toward God!  Through this process we have received affirmation that Haiti is where we are to be and that God will provide the resources for us to do so.  We’d love to share more of our story, God’s story with you.  We are incredibly touched by and grateful for the partners who have already come alongside and begun their support.  It’s actually pretty darn cool to know that we aren’t/can’t go on the field without our team, our prayer warriors and financial supporters.  We continue to be humbled and awestruck by how God is at work building this team to minister to the broken, resilient people of Haiti.

We are so happy for you and the people of Haiti who you will serve. We were praying for you early this morning and then I opened your update and read the wonderful news. We will miss you so much but know that you are going where God needs you and our loss will be the people of Haiti’s gain. We will continue praying for your family and know that God will do wonderful things through you.
